Birth date discrepency prevented OSU shooter’s background check

There has to be a better way to run background checks.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Nathaniel Brown’s prison record never turned up during a background check because Ohio prison records had the wrong date listed for Brown’s birth.

Openonline, the service used by OSU to run the check, used June 5, 1959, the date that OSU had on Brown’s job application and driver’s license.

Ohio prison records list Brown’s birth date as June 4, 1959.
